FAQ

Exion questions answered

These are the questions people put to us through the form and at the consultation, grouped the way they are asked. The price comes first because it is one of the questions asked most; the figure is given in writing at the free consultation, and the rest is answered here. Call 0207 043 8136 or use the form below.

Price

How much does Exion treatment cost?

Exion is priced per applicator, per session and per course, confirmed in writing at your free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote. Consultations and follow-up reviews are free. The quote names the applicator, the areas, the number of sessions and whether a combined Face and Fractional RF session counts as one or two.

Is there an Exion price list?

Not a published one, because the price depends on the applicator, the area and the number of sessions. The written quote from the free consultation is your price list.

Does the consultation cost anything?

No. Consultations and follow-up reviews are free, and you can book from abroad by phone or through the form.

Face, Body and Fractional RF

What is the difference between Exion Face, Body and Fractional RF?

Face and Body warm the skin and the layer beneath it with radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound, from the surface, with no needle: Face for the face, neck and upper chest (décolletage), Body for the abdomen, arms, thighs, buttocks, knees and upper back. Fractional RF delivers the radiofrequency through a grid of fine needles inside the skin, for acne scars and texture. The how it works page explains each.

Can radiofrequency treatment help with jowls?

In our experience Exion Face firms the skin along an early jawline a little and improves its quality; it does not lift a jowl that has dropped. For an early jowl the clinician usually plans EMface, which works the lifting muscles, with Exion for the skin, and the Exion or EMface page explains.

Does Exion Body reduce fat?

In the 2026 study of 23 patients, four sessions with a device matching Exion Body left the fat layer 16% thinner at one month on ultrasound and 22% thinner at three and six months, and 71% reported an improvement. It is a treatment for a soft area with a layer of fat, not for weight. The Body page explains.

Can Exion treat acne scars and stretch marks?

Acne scars and uneven texture, yes, with Exion Fractional RF; one to three sessions in our practice. Stretch marks are treated the same way, and in our experience they soften and fade rather than disappear. The Fractional RF page explains.

Results and sessions

Is Exion treatment worth it?

For skin that has lost firmness and quality, or a soft area with a layer of fat to reduce, in our clinical judgment yes: a small 2025 human study measured hyaluronic acid in the skin up 68% at three months after four Exion Face sessions, and a 2026 study of 23 patients measured the fat layer 22% thinner at three and six months after four sessions with a device matching Exion Body (radiofrequency, targeted ultrasound and active cooling). The evidence is early and we say so.

How many Exion sessions do I need?

Four for Exion Face and Exion Body, the number both human studies used, a week or two apart in the face study and in our practice; one to three for Exion Fractional RF, four to eight weeks apart, in our practice. The clinician sets the number for your skin at the free consultation.

How long does Exion Face last?

The published study measured to three months, when the change in the skin was at its largest; in our experience the firmness and glow hold for several months after a course of four and fade gradually, and a single top-up session every few months keeps them. Nobody has published a longer follow-up yet.

Does Exion really increase hyaluronic acid by 224%?

That figure comes from a 2024 study in twelve pigs, two months after four treatments. In the human study of 2025, hyaluronic acid in the skin was up 49% at one month and 68% at three months in the three adults treated with radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound together. The human figure is the one we quote.

Does Exion hurt?

Face and Body are warm and comfortable: in the Face study discomfort was rated 2.3 out of 10, against 5.3 for radiofrequency alone. Fractional RF is done after numbing cream for about 30 minutes and feels like a stamping pressure with heat.

Is there any downtime?

Face and Body leave the skin pink and warm afterwards and you go back to your day. In our experience Fractional RF leaves the skin red and warm for one to three days, sometimes up to five, with sunscreen every day after; most people work the next day.

Who it suits

Is Exion safe for all skin types?

The US label sets no skin type limit for Face and Body, and the studies did not include darker skin, so the clinician assesses yours first. Fractional RF at its higher energy levels is limited in the US clearance to skin types I to IV, the paler skin types. The clinician sets the energy for your skin and tells you what that means for your course.

Is Exion FDA approved?

Cleared, not approved: the Exion applicators are FDA-cleared in the US, which is the regulator's route for a device of this kind, to heat tissue for the temporary relief of pain and muscle spasm and an increase in local circulation. The Body massage attachment is cleared for a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite, and the Fractional RF tips, depending on the tip, for electrocoagulation and hemostasis or for fractional treatment of the skin. The first clearance was in 2020 and the latest in March 2026. No clearance names wrinkles, loose skin or fat.

Who should not have Exion?

The manufacturer says Face and Body are not used over hair or scar tissue, or with an electronic or metal implant. In our practice we also do not treat in pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active skin infection, open wound or active acne, or with autoimmune skin disease. For Fractional RF we also exclude recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane), a history of raised (keloid) scarring, and a bleeding disorder or blood thinners. The clinician goes through the full list at the free consultation.

Does Exion work for men?

Yes. The applicators and the course are the same for men and women, and the clinician plans the areas with you.

Exion and other treatments

Exion or EMface?

Exion Face treats the skin itself, warming it with radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound to improve its quality and firmness; EMface works the lifting muscles of the face and the skin at the same time. Skin that has lost quality is Exion, a face that has dropped is EMface, and many people have both; our sister clinic provides EMface at the same address.

Exion or Morpheus8?

Both deliver radiofrequency through fine needles; Exion Fractional RF is the needle applicator of the Exion platform, and Morpheus8 is a separate device our sister clinic provides. The clinician says at the consultation which suits your skin and your recovery time, and whether Exion Face without needles is the better start.

Can Exion and EMface be done in the same course?

Yes, and it is a plan we often quote for a face that has both dropped and lost skin quality: EMface for the lift, Exion Face for the skin. The written quote covers both.
