Exion Fractional RF in London

Exion Fractional RF is the needle applicator of the Exion platform: a grid of 36 fine needles, 0.5 to 4 mm deep in the US summary, delivers radiofrequency at 1 MHz inside the skin. Each stamp is a controlled injury that sets off the skin's healing response. Its tips are FDA-cleared in the US, depending on the tip, for electrocoagulation and hemostasis or for dermatological procedures requiring fractional treatment of the skin. We use it for acne scars, uneven texture and stretch marks. One to three sessions four to eight weeks apart in our practice, after numbing cream, at Exion Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, with the price in writing at a free consultation.

What it does, and what it does not

Scars that sit below the surface, the pitted texture acne leaves, lines too deep for a surface treatment, and stretch marks, which in our experience soften and fade rather than disappear. It does not lift a face, and it does not replace Exion Face for skin quality. The two are often planned together, Fractional RF for the texture and Face for the glow, and the written quote says whether a combined session counts as one or two.

Skin types and energy

At the higher energy levels the US clearance limits the applicator to skin types I to IV, the paler skin types; darker skin carries a higher risk of pigment change after any needling. The clinician sets the energy for your skin and tells you at the consultation what that means for your course; on skin types V and VI we do not use the higher energies.

The session, and after

Numbing cream for about 30 minutes, then the tip is stamped across the area in a grid, a pressure with heat at each stamp. In our experience the skin is red and warm for one to three days, sometimes up to five, with tiny dots where the needles went, and it can crust lightly; sunscreen every day after and no make-up on the first day. In October 2025 the US regulator issued a safety communication on radiofrequency microneedling citing reports of serious complications including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. That is why every session here is run by a trained clinician who sets the depth and the energy for your skin and why the skin is checked at each visit.

Who it suits

Acne scars, uneven texture or stretch marks in someone with no active acne or skin infection in the area. No history of raised (keloid) scarring, no recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane), no bleeding disorder or blood thinners, and no electronic or metal implant; in our practice not in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
