EXION

Exion for scars in London

Old injury scars and surgical scars that have settled, such as a caesarean scar or a scar from an operation on the knee or the arm, are treated in our practice with the Fractional RF applicator. Fine needles deliver radiofrequency heat into the scar and the skin around it so collagen remodels and, in our experience, the scar flattens, softens and blends over the months after the course. No study measures Exion on injury or surgical scars, and we say so. One to three sessions four to eight weeks apart in our practice, at Exion Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, with the price in writing at a free consultation.

What it does on scars

In our experience a scar that is raised or tight softens and flattens as the collagen in it remodels, and a scar that is paler or redder than the skin around it blends as the surface renews. The clinician says at the free consultation how much yours is likely to change. Keloid scars, which grow beyond the wound, are a reason not to treat, and a scar less than a year old is left to settle first in our practice.

The evidence

Settled injury and surgical scarring is a use we treat in our practice with the Fractional RF applicator; no Exion study measures it, and we say so plainly. The acne scars page covers acne scarring, where the evidence for the class of treatment is strongest.

The session and who it suits

Numbing cream for about 30 minutes, then the handpiece stamped along the scar and the skin beside it, in our experience 15 to 30 minutes; redness and swelling for one to three days, sunscreen on the scar daily. Someone with a settled injury or surgical scar they want flatter and softer, on most skin types after assessment. Not with keloid scarring, an electronic or metal implant, and in our practice not in pregnancy or breastfeeding or over an active skin problem. The sessions page sets out the course.
